The wait for the modular Moto G smartphone is finally over. Google owned Motorola has revealed its new Moto G, a low-cost version of the earlier launched Moto X, at a special event that was held yesterday in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Starting today, the new smartphone will be available in Brazil and some countries of Europe and will be launching in other countries in the coming few weeks. The launch in USA along with other countries is slated for early next year. Motorola has confirmed that it will be re-entering the Indian market with its Moto G. Motorola Moto G price is very affordable at $179 (Rs.11,300) for the 8GB model and $199 (Rs. 12,600) for the 16GB variant.
Motorola Moto X has fascinated many of the smartphone lovers with its amazing features and customization option, though it is still not clear about its impact from the sales perspective. Moto G is a low-cost version of Moto X, giving Motorola the opportunity to jump into the upcoming new markets. These markets are dominated by people whose love for the smartphones is curtailed only by the price factor. Moto G can really do well by joining the market where the other smartphone makers have already stepped in with their low-cost devices.
Motorola Moto G runs on Android 4.3 Jelly Bean operating system and will for sure get the Android 4.4 KitKat update by January 2014. It comes with a 4.5-inch HD edge-to-edge display with a resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels having a pixel density of 329ppi. It comes with a Corning Gorilla Glass 3 screen. The phone is powered by the 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 (Cortex A7) processor and is coupled with an Adreno 305 GPU. Motorola Moto G is equipped with a 5MP rear camera supporting an LED flash and a front facing 1.3MP camera. The phone is protected with a water-repellent nanocoating, provided internally as well as outside the handset. The phone packs a 2,070mAh battery that has the capacity to deliver 30 per cent more talk time than what Apple iPhone 5s.
Motorola has assured that its processor too has the capability of delivering strong performances while undergoing the most strenuous Android tasks. The software optimization ensured that no duplicate apps are pre-installed and all the important tasks can be done with ease. The company said it outperformed Samsung Galaxy S4 in terms of speed of booting and while receiving or taking calls. Customers living in certain remote areas may have network issues and may not get easy data connectivity, but they will be able to enjoy music and listen to news using the FM Radio feature with strong network coverage. There are other features like Motorola Assist, Motorola Migrate along with 65GB of free online Google Drive storage.
Motorola Moto G should do well in the emerging markets as it is still unknown to many, thus giving the other smartphone vendors a tough competition.
